Camps offer fantastic learning opportunities for children but they can be quite costly.
“As a single mother, I don’t always have the time or the money to give my boys summer experiences that get their brains working. Subsidized day camp at the Children’s Museum gives them that opportunity.” – said Deborah, one of the parents in the day camp subsidy program.
Her two boys, ages 9 and 8, are avid learners who are fascinated by everything from dinosaurs to outer space. We are thrilled to hear that kids like Deborah’s boys were able to play and master new skills.
“My boys are always eager to learn. Camp at the Children’s Museum gives them the chance to explore new interests - and have fun while they’re doing it!”
Earlier this year, Good Neighbors Canada donated $12,000 towards the museum’s Share the Fun Subsidy Program, so that more families could afford a membership and send their kids to camp. All subsidized spots were filled.

The top 3 benefits of summer camp
- It improves social skills and emotional intelligence
Camps are places where children can meet new people. Not only they learn leadership skills but also practice teamwork while facing different challenges. They interact with one another and develop independence at the same time, entering a new environment and building confidence.
It encourages kids to be active
Outdoors fun + less screen time = energy burn! The active play summer camps offer is important to get your kids moving, which is key to a healthy lifestyle. Camp life is all about participating in activities that will get kids engaged and entertained (and away from electronics too).
It teaches in a fun way
Do you remember those “when will I ever use this in my life” moments in school? Well, camp applies lessons in a practical way with activities that are both memorable and enjoyable. Day camp at the Children’s Museum, for example, encourages children to ask questions and test their ideas.
According to the campers, their favourite activities were outdoor ones and also learning how things work and why, like science experiments. “It’s so heartwarming to know my children’s summer day camp experience will be a meaningful one. It’s more than just childcare – it’s an opportunity for my boys to grow and learn together” – said Deborah.
