Canada Extends CUAET Application Period for Ukrainian Families Displaced by Conflict
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has caused displacement and instability for thousands of Ukrainian families.
In response, the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship has reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to supporting Ukrainian families affected by the conflict.
The Canadian government has extended the application period for the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) until July 15, 2023.
CUAET is a humanitarian visa that provides Ukrainian families with the opportunity to find temporary safe haven in Canada. It also allows them to work and study while in Canada. CUAET offers several benefits over other temporary residence programs, including priority processing, increased newcomer services, and waiving of fees.
For those with a visa issued under CUAET, there are important dates to keep in mind:
Those in Canada with a CUAET visa have until March 31, 2024, to apply for an extension or change of their temporary status, and application fees will continue to be waived.
Those with a CUAET visa who have not yet traveled to Canada have until March 31, 2024, to do so under the special measures.
As of March 16, 2023, over 900,000 Ukrainians have applied for CUAET, with around 600,000 applications approved, and 190,970 having arrived in Canada.
The extension of the application period provides more Ukrainian families with the opportunity to apply for CUAET and find safety and stability in Canada.
Canada’s extension of the CUAET application period demonstrates its commitment to providing support and assistance to Ukrainian families affected by the conflict. It reflects the values of compassion and humanity that Canadians hold dear and provides hope and opportunity for those in need.
