Last Wednesday we met with the Tween Council at the London Children’s Museum to tell them about our Hope Letter campaign and the 2019 release, featuring Mina Akter (9), from Bangladesh.

The group, between the ages of 9 and 12, meets once a month to voice their opinions on museum exhibits and community events. They watched Mina’s story on our YouTube channel and were amazed with the fact that her family only earns 70 cents a day while working full-time.

Mina can’t go to school because she spends most of her day at work, helping with her family’s income. She works at a tobacco factory and her biggest dream is to be a teacher. She has a few health problems due to the environment in which she spends 8 hours every day.

“It was an eye-opening experience”, said one of the girls who attended the meeting. They believe the Hope Letter campaign should be something everyone has access to.

Campaign launches soon

The Hope Letter campaign is a Good Neighbors’ contest to stimulate global citizenship and promote education. This year, the campaign will be launched at the London Children’s Museum in June.

The children will be able to write a message of support to Mina or even make an artwork to encourage her. All letters will be sent to Bangladesh. The campaign is a great opportunity for kids to learn about different cultures and become aware of difficulties other people face.

Good Neighbors Canada will have fundraisers throughout the year to raise money to improve a school in Mina’s community with a new playground, exciting books, new equipment, facility upgrades, tuition assistance and training the staff.

We hope to provide quality education to other children like Mina and help transform their future.
