When quarantine started here in London, Ontario, our first thought was providing nutrition to the vulnerable population who wouldn’t have had the means to stock up on food.
We then immediately connected with three local organizations we trust for local support: Meals on Wheels London, the London Food Bank and Mission Services of London. We wanted to know the best way to help in order to protect their workers, clients and volunteers with physical-distancing measures and hygiene.
Since financial help was the fastest and easiest way to ensure they could purchase whatever supplies they needed and reduce contact, we donated a total of $15,000 from our Domestic General Support fund to these agencies.
Today we would like to express how thankful we are for your ongoing support to Good Neighbors Canada.
It is your giving that is helping feed those in need and deliver meals to seniors, adults with disabilities and shelters. Your ongoing donations are allowing us to help our community during this time.
We also want to say thank you to everyone applying to volunteer positions. Currently we aren’t in need of more volunteers, but we will reach out if that changes.
So far, here is how we are supporting these organizations that are working hard to meet the surge in demand:
$5,000 for Meals on Wheels
Provides meals and transportation services to adults with disabilities and seniors (55+). $23 means 10 breakfast bags;$100 means subsidy for 25 meals; and $250 means 30 emergency meals.
$5,000 for the London Food Bank
Shares food resources in London, Ontario and area, as well as provincially through Feed Ontario. About 3,293 households helped every month. Because access to the building is limited, they are encouraging monetary donations(or food donations at grocery stores).
$5,000 for Mission Services of London
Offers shelter, food and clothing to people in need. They will be able to buy supplies like disposable cups, plates, bowls, and cutlery; travel-size hand sanitizer, toilet paper, cleaning products, personal hygiene supplies and protective equipment, grocery store gift cards.
