Another cyclone heads towards Mozambique

It has been less than a month that Cyclone Idai killed over 1,000 people in the region and now there is a storm threatening to make matters worse. With about 83 km/h winds so far, Cyclone Kenneth is expected to strengthen in the next days.

In the aftermath of Cyclone Idai, the estimate is that only 30 percent of the population was helped, meaning there are still 1.8 million people in need of assistance.

The challenges are still plenty: more than 6,300 cases of cholera, vulnerable women and girls living at camps, whole communities that have been cut off from the outside world and people who have not eaten in weeks.

Good Neighbors Canada organized 4 shelters in Dondo and Nhamatanda in Mozambique and gathered food, mosquito nets, blankets and hygiene kits. Supplies were distributed to 1,723 families at Chikuse Camp and 385 homes in Kalima Camp in Chikwawa, Malawi, where we provided temporary housing tents for approximately 72 families.

Although our organization set up a fund of $ 250,000 US dollars, we will provide ongoing support for the affected areas.
