Testimonials

“I want to reach out and thank the team at Good Neighbors Canada London. Music for Mirpur was a beautiful event, Mina’s story was so touching. I was excited to come out and support Chad Price, a local artist. The venue was perfect and the silent auction had some amazing prizes. I was lucky enough to take home a Grooves gift card. Not only was it a night full of great entertainment it also left me feeling grateful to be involved in such a worthy cause.”Amber Farmer

“Good Neighbors Canada is aligned with my heart. When it comes to children’s charity involvement and supporting talented local artists, I sometimes can’t help myself and say YES to see how I can help and support. I am motivated to make a difference and create a positive social impact. I believe community engagement is paramount to create change in the world. Contributing to this cause might not change the world but it could change the world for that community. The money raised for this social issue brings joy to myself and I cannot wait to attend the next event.” Julia Taylor

“Thank you so much for last night’s event. Linda and I both enjoyed it thoroughly. It was a lovely evening and flawlessly executed event. You have an amazing team of staff and volunteers. Congratulations to all involved.”Janet Burrell

Our Music for Mirpur benefit concert brought Good Neighbors Canada one step closer to achieving our goal to rebuild a school in Bangladesh. During the event that happened on August 8th, at the Wolf Performance Hall in downtown London, our caring guests helped raise $10,507.37 for the Save a School campaign!

This raises the bar to $15,932.37 donated to the Save a School campaign!

What exactly does that mean?

It means we you are providing:

  • all educational materials for 250 children: stationery, uniforms, bags, geometric boxes, books and notepads. That includes an expected increase of 50 students next year;
  • two street drama plays and one puppet show in the community for children’s rights, including a petition against child labour and child marriage and two campaigns for criminalization and child protection laws in Bangladesh;
  • teacher development and program related materials, including subject specific training;
  • facility upgrades, like purchasing a generator and a water filter.

What’s next?

With the value donated so far, we can cover a lot but we still rely on your support to take care of tuition, teaching materials and other school improvements.

Our goal is very ambitious: we need $70k to revamp the Mirpur School and teach the community that kids need to be in school.

Child labour nowadays

Music for Mirpur was an event focused, not only in promoting education, but also in raising awareness about the sad fact that 1 in 4 children are engaged in child labour in the poorest countries.

Our guests got to know 9-year-old Mina, by watching a video about her life as a tobacco factory worker in the slums of Mirpur, Bangladesh.

“Today, 152 million children are victims of child labour and they are as young as 5 years old. These kids are essentially being deprived of their childhood”, said Hyang Cho, Executive Director of Good Neighbors Canada. “We work for kids to have better homes and a safe and healthy environment to grow.”

A great part of the funds was raised during cocktail hour, when guests bid on a variety of silent auction items we had thanks to generous donors and partners.

The most popular ones were four resorts’ stays, Blue Jays tickets for a match at Rogers Centre and a Trade Secrets gift basket with tons of haircare products.

Local artist Chad Price had everybody dancing in their seats with a one-hour set. He gave the audience a preview of his new album and played a version of the popular song “Fast Car” by the one and only Tracy Chapman.

As an ambassador for Good Neighbors Canada, Chad and his band highlighted they were extremely happy to be helping kids get a better shot at life.

And the Good Neighbors Canada team is over the moon for all the love and support to this cause.

We look forward to the next event!
