Supporting Current and Aspiring Entrepreneurs in Their Market Vendor Journeys
On July 6th, Good Neighbours Canada, in partnership with the City of Toronto, successfully hosted our first business workshop for the summer on the topic of “Succeeding as a Market Vendor” under our Goods4Causes social enterprise project. The workshop aimed to support current and aspiring small business owners from marginalised groups, including newcomers, refugees, people of colour, and other minorities who are looking to become a vendor and sell their products at these face-to-face events. We invited Christine Beaton, experienced market vendor and small business owner of Christine’s Crochet Corner, to deliver a workshop on how to begin and enhance one’s journey of vendoring at markets.
"Don’t think of people who do what you do as competition. Think of people who do what you do as part of your community."
Christine Beaton, facilitator and owner of Christine’s Crochet Corner
The attendees were given helpful insight on how to research and apply for markets, advertise their attendance, engage with customers, network with other small business owners, and much more! Christine successfully catered the presentation to fit the specific businesses and goals of our attendees. As they all had very different niches (e.g., crochet items, pet supplies, self-care, etc.), Christine provided each attendee with multiple Facebook market groups and direct contacts of market organizers relevant to each of their businesses! Not only was it educational, it was also an effective way of expanding the vendors’ network and reach.
Christine concluded with a very insightful comment: “Don’t think of people who do what you do as competition. Think of people who do what you do as part of your community”. This is a great reminder that encourages everyone to be kind to others, support small businesses, and grow together as entrepreneurs.
At Good Neighbours Canada, we believe in empowering small business owners and helping them succeed! By providing them with the necessary tools, knowledge, and support, we aim to empower individuals to establish and grow successful ventures.
Please stay tuned for more workshop opportunities that may support and enhance your small business journeys!
