The Good Neighbours Hope Letter Campaign is a contest to stimulate global citizenship and promote education. For over 15 years, Good Neighbours has coordinated this global citizenship education program, which engages over three million students globally each year.
Through a case study, we encourage children to consider the differences between Canada and underdeveloped countries and invite them to express hope and empathy through a creative writing activity. Every year there is a new case study of a child or children through the Good Neighbours Child Sponsorship Project. This year, 2024, is about Mbana and Kenzo.
Mbana lives with her little brother Kenzo, who is six years old. Regrettably, Kenzo sufferes from a tropical bacterial alienation disease known as Buruli ulcer. Early detection can readily treat the disease, but poverty prevents Kenzo from accessing early treatment; this condition has crushed Mbana and her brother’s dream.
But with your letters of hope and support, Mbana and Kenzo can become optimistic about life. To learn more about Mbana and Kenzo, watch the video above.

You can choose to use a special hope letter template that you can fill out on your computer. This means you can type your message of hope right into the template without having to print it first.
If you prefer or want to draw a message of hope, you can also print the template on paper and write or draw by hand.
Additionally, you are welcome to make your own design if you want to be creative and come up with something completely unique!
Whether you type it, write it, or design your own, your message is equally important to Mbana and Kenzo.
Take some time to think about what hope means to you, and then you can either write or draw a special message to Mbana and Kenzo.
You can share something that makes you feel happy, or even draw a picture that represents hope.
Let your creativity shine, and remember that your words or drawings can bring a smile to their faces.
Once you have finished writing your letter of hope, you can share it in two different ways!
You can either upload your letter of hope below or send your letters through mail to Good Neighbours Canada office:
1585 Markham Rd., Unit 213,
Toronto, ON M1B 2W1.
Deadline for submissions will be at 11:59pm on December 31, 2024. Any submissions received after that will not count towards the Hope Letter competition. Winners will be contacted through the email used on the form below on January 15, 2024.
