30 YEARS OF LIFE-CHANGING TRANSFORMATIONS

Founded in South Korea and now operating worldwide, Good Neighbours has helped over 8 million people
across the globe since 1991.

In partnership with United Nations agencies, we are a humanitarian organization that believes in empowering people. We are committed to supporting communities through enhancing wellbeing and promoting positive, sustainable change.

GOOD CHANGE FOR THE WORLD

Good Neighbours Canada is a registered charity in Toronto, Ontario, that supports people in need locally and internationally.

Our primary objective is to work closely with the communities we serve, fostering collaboration and understanding. Through a collaborative approach, we strive to develop programs and initiatives that are tailored to address the unique circumstances and requirements of each community.

We have been operating in Canada since 2017, implementing a wide range of inclusive community-based development projects and providing emergency relief.

WHAT WE WORK WITH

Five pillars of wellbeing:

Health | Education | Social enterprise | Water access | Emergency relief

Our mandate is guided by the principles of inclusivity, respect, and dignity. We believe in the inherent value and potential of every
individual, and we are dedicated to creating an environment where everyone can thrive and reach their full potential. We prioritize the voices and experiences of marginalized groups and actively work to reduce disparities and promote equality.

DID YOU KNOW?

We have General Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC).

Besides working with local governments, we cooperate with United Nations agencies, like the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the World Food Programme (WFP). One example is the Zero Hunger Project, implemented in Tanzania and Bangladesh.

OUR STORY

1991 - How it all started

Good Neighbours was established in South Korea on March 28, 1991. Some of the first projects were supporting long-term patients with Tuberculosis (TB), as well as assisting children with disabilities and those in orphanages.

1992 - Helping neighbours overseas

International development started with a relief project in Bangladesh, followed by refugee support in Somalia in 1993.

1994 - Emergency relief for refugees

Good Neighbours was the first Korean NGO to dispatch a medical volunteer team to provide aid after the Rwandan genocide in 1994.

1996 - United Nations ECOSOC

Only 5 years after being founded, Good Neighbours' work was recognized by the United Nations (UN), obtaining General Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC).

2007 - MDGs Award

Good Neighbours was awarded the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Award for advancing primary education.

2011 - World Food Programme

Selected as a partner organization for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the Saemaul Zero Hunger Communities Project was implemented the next year to improve food security, generate income, and build infrastructure.

2017 - Good Neighbours Canada

We started operating in Canada as a registered charity, from our office in London, Ontario, the same year the Africa Hope School project reached 100 schools. In a project with Hope TV SBS and six NGOs, Good Neighbours built 52 Hope Schools and education centres.

2020 - COVID-19 response

Good Neighbours provided aid in 39 countries and in Canada we launched a campaign for food relief that raised almost $26,000.
