On the 23rd of August, Good Neighbours Canada (GNCA) expanded its network in the local community by partnering with BackRoads Running Club in their annual BackRoads Run to Port Stanley, a social run from London, Ontario towards Port Stanley Beach. This run offers staggered start times for participants, with the option to choose their own distance ranging from 3.5km to 33.6km.
Though there is no registration fee for the run, this year BackRoads decided to include an optional donation for runners to support GNCA’s #Step4Water campaign, helping to make clean water accessible to rural communities in Zambia. This is the first time the event conducted fundraising for a social cause. In addition, one of the run’s sponsors, On Shoes, donated $5 for every person that tried on shoes at their aid station.
As part of GNCA’s support, we set up an aid station around 3.5km away from the finish line, cheering on runners and sharing our mission with the community. Through supplies provided by BackRoads, we handed out water, electrolyte drinks, and snacks as fuel for the distance runners. Many of the participants were grateful for the aid support and were enthusiastic to meet our team. Our shared goal with BackRoads was to create a meaningful run where participants can dedicate their passion for running to helping the community.
After the run, all the participants and partners gathered in the local restaurant GTs On The Beach for lunch. GNCA’s team set up a small booth near the entrance to further share its other advocacies, answer questions about the organization, and sell some Goods4Causes items to interested families.

After everything, GNCA is proud to announce that it raised a collective total of $1200 for accessible clean water! Every dollar raised goes to building water boreholes, teaching the local community on best practices in hygiene, and training a local water management team in a rural community in Zambia. We are currently in discussion with Zambia to build a water facility inside a local school in 2026, keeping school children hydrated and healthy!

We would like to thank BackRoads and all their runners for their support. We also want to thank our volunteers Joshua Choi and Cynthia Ling for assisting our aid stations and booth.
