Every child has dreams, but not every child has an easy path to achieving them. Today, Good Neighbours Canada is pleased to announce the launch of our 2026 Hope Letter Campaign – a global initiative to empower students across Canada to become empathetic, globally-aware citizens while sending strength to a young boy and his family who need it most.
Charles is a determined, caring and resourceful 12-year-old boy living in a small village in Zambia. Since his parents have passed away, he carries the heavy responsibility of working dangerous jobs – like collecting rocks at a copper mine – to support his grandmother and younger sister, Anna. Despite a severe knee injury that threatens his ability to walk, Charles refuses to give up on his future. He holds onto a bright dream: to save enough money to go back to school and become a teacher.
"If you send me letters of hope and encouragement, they will become another precious treasure to me."
Charles
Through heartfelt letters and meaningful reflections, campaign participants will engage in an incredible journey of empathy, resilience, and an awareness of international issues.
Children under 18 across Canada are invited to draw or write a letter of hope to Charles using our template or their own unique design. By participating, youth have the chance to win exciting prizes – including a $300 donation made in the winner’s name to Charles’ community and a goodie bag from Goods4Causes!
Submissions are open until November 30, 2026. Whether you are a parent looking for a meaningful family project or an educator interested in bringing global citizenship into your classroom, we would love to have you join us. If you register as a partner, you will also receive further resources such as a discussion guide and promotional poster, along with being recognized on Good Neighbours Canada socials and communications about the campaign.
