Providing Youth Opportunities Through the Canada Summer Jobs Progra

This summer, Good Neighbours Canada had the privilege of being funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program! With the support of our local Member of Parliament, Shaun Chen, we were accepted into a program that is dedicated to providing the youth with valuable skills and work experiences to help them transition into the labour market.

Through this grant, we were able to recruit four interns to assist us over the course of two months; Ilil Guttman-Visoker as our Social Enterprise Sales Assistant, Zuhal Mojadidi for Social Enterprise Community Organizer, Evelyn Wu for Fundraising Campaign and Event Assistant, and Artem Maiboroda as Community Marketing Coordinator. With their help, we were able to attend several markets and events as well as host multiple community workshops throughout the summer.

“Working at Good Neighbours Canada allowed me to gain insight to the behind the scenes of non-profit organizations, including the hard work and dedication put towards GNCA’s local and international projects. The team was incredibly supportive as we celebrated each other’s progress and wins. This opportunity enhanced my values for humanity, community, and social change”.

We at Good Neighbours Canada are extremely grateful for the assistance and support that these amazing individuals have provided us. Giving young people the platform to learn and opportunity to create social change is a big part of our organizational mission.

"Working as a summer intern for Good Neighbours Canada was a fantastic and very rewarding experience. I had the pleasure of serving as a social Enterprise Sales Assistant, and found that even in the course of just 8 weeks, I got to learn a lot, develop my skills and take part in new experiences.

The team environment was a definite highlight of this internship; the senior staff were incredibly supportive and welcomed contributions from myself and my fellow interns. What stood out to me about working at Good Neighbours Canada is the attention and emphasis given to individual skill development and projects; I was encouraged to step out of my comfort zone and try new things but was also given the opportunity to focus on projects I felt passionate about.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here: this internship not only provided me with practical experience and professional growth but also allowed me to connect deeply with the mission and values of Good Neighbours Canada."

This program also allowed us to strengthen our relationship with the community and our identity as an established nonprofit in Canada. While the summer internships may be over, there are still open volunteer and co-op opportunities available for meaningful youth engagement in our charity’s work throughout the year.
