WATER, SANITATION, AND HYGIENE (WASH)
Provide clean water and access to proper sanitation and hygiene.
IS HOLIDAY SEASON
Good Water Project
Through education and sanitation initiatives, we help people learn about the need for safe water and better washroom facilities.
We make it our priority to make clean water accessible to everyone and give people the ability to maintain new systems independently.
Wishing Well
Aside from building water purifying systems, handwashing stations, and water tanks, we also build hand pumps.
Through the Wishing Well Project, we provide water for communities in Zambia, so people do not need to walk long distances to get to water sources.
In partnership with local schools, we build wells in areas everyone can access.
4 hours to get water
For some children, this is the time it takes them to collect water for their families - water that is often contaminated.
They do this every single day.
When water comes from a tap, children can spend their time studying, playing and just being kids.
Watch the video to see what they would do in 4 hours.
Step for Water
Over 3,300 people walked during the 2019 Step for Water at Seoul Grand Park in South Korea.
That day, people could experience how hard it is to walk for 4 hours to get water.
The initiative started in 2017. In 2021, Good Neighbours Canada prepared the Pumpkin Spice Virtual 5K so we could also #STEP4WATER for kids in Zambia.
After our virtual run, we have received $3000 from a generous donor and we are happy to announce that we raised enough money to build two new wells in Zambia!
Improved facilities
We provide adequate sanitation and make sure that human waste is not discharged into rivers without any treatment.
Clean and safe toilets at schools allow students to focus on their education, so they do not have to go looking for a bathroom.
It also makes things easier for girls dealing with period poverty, by giving them a place to maintain menstrual hygiene and make sure their periods do not affect their school attendance.
Hygiene training
Teaching communities about waterborne diseases is vital to break poor hygiene habits. Clean water is not only needed for drinking, but also for cooking and doing other domestic tasks, like washing dishes.
Good Neighbours organizes programs for people to learn about what can make them sick and how to keep healthy habits overall. Hygiene kits are provided.
Provide clean water and access to proper sanitation and hygiene.
